"Realization"

The first section of my latest painting is the scientific representation of a DMT moelcule.  The last section is, of course, Kokopelli.

DMT is a naturally occurring substance found in plants and animals alike.  The two enzymes that produce DMT have been found in the human brain, specifically, in the neocortex and the hippocampus.  In rats, it’s been found in their Pineal Gland.  Rick Strassman, M.D., among others, theorize that our own pineal glands also produce DMT.  While most believe that DMT, in sufficient quantities, causes hallucinations, Strassman’s research suggests otherwise.  His research suggests that DMT allows an individual to experience, or realize, other dimensions.  Not false or fictitious dimensions, but rather, dimensions that humans typically cannot perceive.  We breathe oxygen, however, we don’t perceive it.  Yet we know, or “realize,” that it exists.  We realize the existence of infrared light, yet again, we don’t perceive it.  Nor do we perceive radio waves.

The pineal gland is shaped like a pine cone, hence the name.  Pine cones were used by numerous ancient spiritual groups as a symbol of “Realization,” or a symbol of the pathway towards enlightenment.  In fact, there’s a 13 foot tall bronze statue of a pine cone at The Vatican (pictured below).  I’ve also included a picture of a piece of ancient Sumerian artwork depicting an individual holding a pine cone, a symbol used in ancient Mesopotamian religion.

Why the pine cone?  What did they know that was completely overlooked by the masses?  They used a pine cone because they knew the significance of the pineal gland.  In Hinduism, it is said to be the seat of the sixth chakra, also known as, “the third eye.”  Have the prophets, sages, and shaman, been able to stimulate their pineal glands through meditation, prayer, and the like, enough to secrete a sufficient amount of DMT so as to perceive other dimensions?  Dimensions that the average individual has no conception of, nonetheless, dimensions that truly exist?

What is enlightenment if not to be able to perceive that which has previously been hidden from you.  Through meditation one can gain a better understanding of the significance of one’s own intention, as well as, a better understanding of one’s own capabilities.

Take note of the various symbolic uses of the pine cone.  The cross section of a pine cone reveals the fact that it grows in the manner of "The Fibonocci Sequence."  If you're not familiar with The Fibonocci Sequence, I suggest you look it up - it's truly amazing!

This rough draft was done many moons ago - back in 2010.

I worked on this in spurts, always listening to the same Native American chanting music, titled, "Walk in Beauty," by "Primeaux and Mike" - literally for years.
